🔥 Catching Fire: Extreme Tourism: Why the Wealthy Pay to Struggle  💰

June 29, 2023

Extreme tourism is all about seeking out that which pushes the limits of the human experience. Huge fees are paid for dangerous and inaccessible activities that most of the world couldn't dream of ever affording (or probably ever wanting to do in the first place).

From heliskiing to cage diving, Atlantic expeditions to deep-sea voyages, these death-defying (and often, actually fatal) stunts have become the modern-day vacation for the uber-rich.

When your wealth can buy you anything, near-death experiences are the final frontier. Pushing the limits of the human body and reality itself is perhaps the only novelty that's left.

The extreme tourism industry has been steadily growing, as the demand for these adrenaline-inducing trips amongst the rich begins to rise. British entrepreneur, Jules Mountain, says the appeal comes from the risk: "you want to push boundaries and prove you’re in a different capacity to others".

The contrast between the wealth and opulence of participants intentionally seeking out struggle and danger is hard to miss. I'll stick to laying on the beach, thanks.
